Benefits of Kobido Facial Massage

Face massage has increased in popularity in recent years with more and more people throwing out cosmetic anti-ageing techniques like botox and replacing them with the natural power of facial massage. The popularity of face massage is also credited to the rise of social media skincare influencers, who’ve brought more attention to facial massage techniques like Kobido.

If you are interested in learning about Kobido face massage, its benefits, and how to incorporate it into your self-care routine, then you are in the right place.

We sat down with Em, founder of KaHuna Massage Berlin, a masseuse and Kobido expert to answer some of our burning questions!

Originally from Australia, Em moved to Berlin in 2017, and in 2019 she founded Ka Huna Berlin, a massage studio where she offers kahuna bodywork, lomi lomi, kobido and couple massage workshops.

What is Kobido face-lifting massage?

Kobido massage is a traditional Japanese facial massage technique that has been used for over 400 years to maintain the youthful appearance of the face.

The word "Kobido" means "the ancient way of beauty," and the massage is designed to stimulate the muscles and lymphatic system of the face, neck, and scalp. The massage technique uses a combination of kneading, pressing, and stroking movements to improve blood circulation, tone the muscles of the face, and promote relaxation.

It also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improves the overall texture and tone of the skin. It literally lifts your face!

What are the benefits of Kobido facial massage?

Anti-ageing effects

Kobido massage can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone, and promote a youthful appearance.

Improved circulation

The massage technique promotes blood and lymphatic circulation, which can help reduce puffiness, dark circles, and promote healthy skin.

Relaxation and stress relief

The massage can help reduce tension in the facial muscles and promote overall relaxation, which can reduce stress and anxiety.

Improved skin texture and tone

The massage technique helps to exfoliate the skin, remove dead skin cells, and promote cell turnover, resulting in smoother, brighter, and more even-toned skin.

Promotes overall well-being

The massage can help reduce tension, headaches, and eye strain, and promote a sense of well-being and relaxation.

Relieves insomnia, headaches and migraines.

As well as reducing tension and reducing stress, Kobido can even help to reduce the painful effects of migraines and headaches.

How frequently should I massage my face?

Initially, it is recommended to get a Kobido massage every 1-2 weeks for six sessions.

When starting off it is important not to take a break for too long because you want muscle memory to kick in! It is much more effective to do many sessions in the beginning opposed to every 2 months for many years. Once you have done this intense marathon every 1-2 weeks for 6 weeks then you can reduce the frequency to every 6 weeks. This will dramatically slow the ageing process and keep your muscles looking lifted and full of life.

Can I do Kobido at home?

Unfortunately, you cannot perform Kobido technique on yourself. It's kind of like attempting to give your body a massage, firstly it's tricky to find the motivation to massage for an hour, and secondly to do the technique correctly, thirdly it is just not that relaxing!

You can definitely do elements of Kobido on yourself, for example, you can use the gua sha to do lymphatic drainage. You could also do the technique of pinching and stretching your facial muscles. However, unfortunately, it will not have the same effect compared to receiving it from a professional. I wish I could do Kobido on myself!

How did you get into Kobido massage?

After I experienced one myself, I felt and saw a difference straight away, it was incredible! As a massage therapist already, I felt this was a perfect new offering. I am very happy I became qualified, and my clients are too!

Overall Kobido face massage has many benefits and is a natural and non-invasive way to promote anti-ageing, relaxation, and can even reduce your stress. So, why not take this as a cue to book an appointment and build Kobido into your self-care routine today!
